Existentia: Orchestral Works by Bálint Karosi

by Bálint Karosi (organ), Charles Kiger (percussion), Spectrum Symphony of New York, David A. Grunberg (conductor); Miklós Környei (guitar), Anastasia Razvalyaeva (harp), András Szalai (cimbalom), Anima Musicæ Chamber Orchestra, Balázs Horváth (conductor); Boston Modern Orchestra Project, Gil Rose (conductor)

How many differences are there between the job of an early 18th century cantor in Leipzig, and a 21st century one in New York? Surprisingly few. Unlike J. S. Bach, Bálint Karosi, the current cantor of the Saint Peter’s Church in Manhattan fortunately doesn’t have to teach but he organizes the musical ensembles of his own church in just the same way, and has to provide music for the acts of worship, just as did his greatest predecessor, and this music can be his own, or that of other composers. On this album we chose from Bálint Karosi’s own orchestral works.
